THE
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MOUNTAINEERS ASSOCIATION (SCMA),
with 200+ members, hosts trips almost every weekend throughout the year to
Joshua Tree, Tahquitz/Suicide, Yosemite, Courtright Reservoir, Mt. Whitney, the
Palisades, The Needles, Church Domes, the Southern Sierra, Mexico, Red
Rocks and Christmas Tree Pass, Nevada, and more.
The SCMA was founded in 1986 to provide
an organization for meeting other experienced climbers of all abilities, to
promote our sport and to foster safe
climbing. The SCMA evolved from the Rock
Climbing section of the Sierra Club, making us one of the oldest climbing clubs
in the nation.
General meetings
are held at 7:30pm on
the second Tuesday of every other month (Jan, Mar, May, July, Sept, Nov,) in the
Park Ranger's Headquarters at Griffith Park, 4730 Crystal Springs Drive (MAP). The meetings are free,
open to the public, and feature speakers, films, and slide shows on climbing and
mountaineering. Come on down and say hello!
Annual dues for membership are $45, and
include all campsite fees and our monthly newsletter, Cliffnotes.
