A Western Climbing Road Trip

Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at the SCMA General meeting Aron Stockhausen will present a program featuring stories and photos from the climbing road trip he and his wife Annie took this summer.  After living abroad for many years, Aron and Annie recently moved back to the US.  Before taking up permanent residence near Joshua Tree National Park this fall, they outfitted a Ford E-150 van for camping and set off on a three month trip to climb all over the western United States.  The primary focus of the trip was to climb lots of big, moderate, multi-pitch climbs, and to also do plenty of bouldering, shorter climbs, and visit friends along the way.  Climbing locations included Sedona, Flagstaff, Sequoia and Yosemite National Parks, the Eastern Sierra, Smith Rocks, Tetons, Wind River Range, Devils Tower, the Needles of South Dakota, Moab, and many more.

Now in his early 30s, Aron started climbing at the age of 14 at Planet Rock gym in Pontiac, Michigan.  In addition to trad climbing he enjoys and participates in many other areas of climbing including bouldering, sport climbing, deep water solo, rope solo, free solo, etc.  Since beginning climbing in 1997, Aron has climbed in 25 countries on 5 continents. Come enjoy the presentation, plan and dream about your own road trip, and welcome Aron and Annie home to Southern California.  Aron and Annie runs a rock climbing guide service in Joshua Tree and worldwide.  For more info, please visit stone-adventures.com.

The meeting will be held at the auditorium of the Griffith Park Ranger Headquarters in Griffith Park, 4730 Crystal Springs Drive, Los Angeles. The meeting begins at 7:30 PM with the presentation after some brief general club business. There is no cost to attend and members as well as non-members are always welcome to come and see what the SCMA is all about.
