Rock Climbing in Italy and France

On Tuesday, November 10, 2015 SCMA member Patty Kline will present a show of pictures from a climbing trip she and a friend took to Italy and France.  First stop on the trip was to the town of Arco in northeast Italy.  Arco is adjacent to an abundance of limestone and was the site of the 2011 IFSC World Climbing world championship.  They next headed a few hours east to the Dolomites for some more limestone climbing.  Finally the two hopped on a plane to Paris, France and headed to the town of Fontainebleau just south of the city.  Fontainebleau is a world class bouldering destination with rounded sandstone boulders set in a magnificently beautiful forest.  It has a long history as a training area for French alpine climbers, and is also the birthplace of the Fontainebleau grading system for boulders which is widely used throughout Europe.

The meeting will be held at the auditorium of the Griffith Park Ranger Headquarters in Griffith Park, 4730 Crystal Springs Drive, Los Angeles. The meeting begins at 7:30 PM with the presentation after some brief general club business. There is no cost to attend and member as well as non-members are always welcome to come and see what the SCMA is all about.
